Craig
Blackmon

I plan technology projects, set up the systems, and keep them running after go‑live.

Technical project manager in Waco, Texas

Craig Blackmon
  • 20+years in tech and operations
  • ~150clients onboarded a year
  • 8–14projects running at once

From the shop floor to the server rack

I started in winery retail operations, where I ended up owning the POS and inventory systems, then the website, SEO, and online sales. That path led to ten years at vinSuite (Jonas Software), where I moved from technical support to product training, product management, and finally technical project management.

As a technical PM I took newly acquired clients from kickoff to go-live: requirements, SQL Server and POS installs, hardware, data migration, training, and the support that follows. I worked closely with engineering in Jira, tested releases, and wrote the knowledge base clients used to help themselves.

Outside of work I run my own infrastructure: a segmented home network, a NAS with self-hosted services, and a set of DayZ game servers for a community I founded. I'm finishing my CAPM certification, expected December 2026.

Case studies

A few projects where I owned the problem from start to finish.

Onboarding about 150 clients a year

vinSuite / Jonas Software, 2016–2026

8–14 implementations running at once, from kickoff through go-live and support

The situation
Newly acquired clients needed to move onto vinSuite's software and hardware without disrupting their daily sales, and every client had a different setup.
What I did
Ran each project end to end: requirements, configuration, SQL Server and POS installs, payment devices and hardware, data migration, training, and go-live. Tracked milestones and issues in Teamwork and Salesforce, and worked defects and enhancements through Jira with engineering.
Result
Built a repeatable onboarding process and a customer knowledge base that gave clients self-service answers and reduced reliance on direct support.

Cutting inventory shrinkage

V. Sattui Winery, 2009–2011

About 15% less shrinkage

The situation
Inventory counts didn't match the system, and losses were hard to trace.
What I did
Implemented Microsoft RMS POS and inventory systems, wrote operating procedures, ran quarterly physical inventories, and investigated discrepancies and loss-prevention issues.
Result
More accurate inventory, lower shrinkage, and controls that helped identify and curb internal theft.

Doubling organic web traffic

V. Sattui Winery, 2011–2016

100% growth in organic traffic with no paid advertising

The situation
The winery needed more online visibility and sales without an ad budget.
What I did
Led SEO strategy, testing, and optimization, tracked analytics and customer behavior to guide decisions, and ran social media branding.
Result
Doubled organic traffic, with gains in search rankings, online revenue, and social engagement.

What I run at home

My home lab is where I practice what I'd set up for a client. Everything sits behind one firewall, split into separate networks so a problem in one place can't reach the rest.

Internet
Netgate 2100, pfSense+ Firewall and router, VPN remote access, rules between networks
Server network

Baysic Survival Gaming

  • Four+ DayZ PvE servers on a dedicated host
  • Managed through CFTools Architect
  • Economy, gameplay, and mod settings tuned in XML and JSON
  • Discord with moderation bots and honeypot bot detection
Storage network

UGREEN NAS

  • Central storage for the house and lab
  • Docker containers managed with Portainer
  • Small self-hosted websites and apps
  • Exposed to the internet only where it's needed, and locked down
General network

Everyday devices

  • PCs, phones, and streaming devices
  • Kept apart from servers and storage
  • Only the access they actually need

Built and maintained since 2022. This website runs on Cloudflare, off the home network, on purpose.
